What are we doing in the Art room?

    Blogpicture1

Work by Maya Rodriguez Clark from 1st grade.

This second week of November we finished our mural designs influenced by the Brazilian artist Romero Britto. We discussed public art and gave examples to be found around DC.

Pre-Kinder to 1st grade were inspired by Britto’s dogs, his butterflies and his Mona Lisa cat.  Influenced by Britto's colors and patterns, 2nd and 3rd grade came up with ideas for a future mural to be painted in the playground.

For a kid-friendly example of public art, check out the “Zoo Lights” exhibit at the National Zoo.  http://dc.about.com/od/christmasevents/a/ZooLights.

Work by Sofia Pineda from 2nd grade.

The art work on this page is stunning! The reinforcing nature of the website for the children and updates to parents are excellent adjuncts to teaching. (I am a grandparent.)
