    Valentine hearts and endangered animals

    Diego_aguirre

    Painting by Diego Aguirre

We started off the week on a colorful note by designing hearts for Valentine's Day. On Tuesday Pre-Kinder through to 2nd grade started a project on animals threatened with extinction. We have chosen the Red Knot and will study this bird and reproduce it on paper using the pointillism technique. We are entering our drawings into the 2011 Endangered Species Day (ESD) Youth Art Contest. As a part of the 6th annual Endangered Species Day, students from Kinder to 12th grade can learn about threatened species and express their knowledge and support of our nation's endangered wildlife through their art.
Third grade 3A did their second week of working with the architects from the Washington Architectural Foundation. We will be concentrating on size and dimensions.
I hope you are all enjoying Artsonia as much as I am. We are up to 3,000 works posted on the on-line gallery and look forward to uploading many more works by our creative students. If any parent would like help or advice on how Artsonia works please feel free to set up an appointment with me on Teacher Parent Conference Day on February 28th. E-mail me atfiona.murphy@dc.gov  .
