This week in the art room: Arcimboldo

Work by Olivia Rhee from 3rd grade.

This week we are studying the Italian painter Arcimboldo, who created whimsical portraits composed of fruit and vegetables, plants, animals and other objects. We have used the theme "We are what we eat" and that gives us the opportunity to talk about body and health -- in collaboration with the Science department -- as we approach the feasting of Thanksgiving.

Check out the work of Arcimboldo and go and see his paintings at the National Gallery of Art.
