    Matisse and painting wine glasses

    Setytekeu1stgrade

This week in the Art room PK and Kinder worked on Matisse-style collages and learned about positive and negative space. 1st grade worked on posters for Poetry Day to be held here at Oyster  on May 24.

2nd and  3rd grade began a new project painting simple designs on wine glasses, candle holders and glass tiles using glass paints.

Congratulations to our Oyster students who were winners in the North American division of the UNEP-Bayer International Children's Painting Competition. Luka Boadle from 2nd grade placed in the top ten and was Washington D.C.'s best in the competition. Laine Holman from  1st grade was one of two "D.C.'s Best" winners, Natalie Fernandez and Jourdan Garnier from 3rd grade won honorable mentions. The works by these students will be exhibited throughout the summer at the Martin Luther King Jr. library at 901 G Street NW, as of June 5.
