    Kehinde Wiley - African-American portraits

    Kehindewiley003

Leading up to Martin Luther King Day and Black History Month in February, we turned to a African-American artist for inspiration: Kehinde Wiley.

This week in 2nd and 3rd grade we worked on creating repeat patterns, which will be part of our project influenced by Wiley, whose portraits address the image and status of young African-American men in contemporary culture. With PK and 1st grade we also worked on repeat patterns, using oil pastels and collage.

Special request: please send in any cardboard boxes or gift wrapping paper left over from Christmas, and any magazines you do not want, to be used in a sculpture project that we will be working on in the next few weeks.

    Kehinde Wiley - retratos afro-americanos
