This second week of November we finished our mural designs influenced by the Brazilian artist Romero Britto. We discussed public art and gave examples to be found around DC.
Pre-Kinder to 1st grade were inspired by Britto’s dogs, his butterflies and his Mona Lisa cat. Influenced by Britto's colors and patterns, 2nd and 3rd grade came up with ideas for a future mural to be painted in the playground.
For a kid-friendly example of public art, check out the “Zoo Lights” exhibit at the National Zoo. http://dc.about.com/od/christmasevents/a/ZooLights. Work by Sofia Pineda from 2nd grade.
